Questions hosts ask us
Still unsure? Send us a message and we’ll help you get set up.
How do guests pay?
Guests pay the full amount online by card through Yoco, a South African payment provider. Port Owen collects the money as your agent, so you never have to chase a deposit.
When and how do hosts get paid?
We pay by EFT into your South African bank account 2 days after your guest checks in, less our 10% commission. Add your banking details in your dashboard before your first booking.
What does it cost to host?
No listing or sign-up fee. We take 10% of confirmed bookings only. Guests pay the price you set, with no service fee added on top.
How does approval work?
We check every new listing before it goes live, so guests can trust what they see. If something needs changing, we tell you exactly what. Update it and resubmit.
What about cancellations?
You choose a Flexible, Moderate or Strict policy for each stay, and guest refunds are worked out from that policy automatically. If you cancel a confirmed booking, the guest gets a full refund.
How does the service provider subscription work?
Pay R 149 for a month or R 1 490 for a year, by card. Your listing shows while it’s approved and paid up. Renew from your dashboard before it runs out. We take no commission on jobs you win.
How much does it cost to list a restaurant?
R 99 a month, paid by card through Yoco. Add your menu, specials, photos and opening hours, and update them whenever you like. Nothing renews automatically: when your month ends your listing is hidden until you pay again from your dashboard. No commission, ever.
Can I sync my calendar with Airbnb or Booking.com?
Yes. Each stay has an iCal export link, and you can import calendars from other platforms so your dates stay in sync and you avoid double bookings.
